Boddam
Boddam is a fishing village on the east coast of Aberdeenshire some three and a half miles south of Peterhead.
In 1845, Boddam was made a port via an Act of Parliament, by the late Earl of Aberdeen, who had had the second harbour built for over £2000 in 1842. The first harbour had been built in 1831 lying north of the lighthouse. The two harbours are separated by a beach of round stones joining Buchan Ness to the mainland.
Overlooking the harbours , standing 130 feet tall and stapled onto the most easterly point in Scotland is the red and white striped Buchan Ness lighthouse which was engineered in 1827 by Robert Stevenson who later became grandfather to Robert Louis Stevenson, the author of the books ‘Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’ and ‘Treasure Island’.
