Etched Raindrop
In Camera Movement
Etched Raindrop is a collection specially created to feature on walls, to uplift and provide identity and interest to residential and business spaces without overwhelming or dominating. Stripped of their defining characteristics and abstracted by motion, these subjects become a painterly expression of my own movement. I am freely painting with the light.
Social distancing, lack of physical contact, the closure of places ingrained in ritual, habit and tradition is a real cause to have concern for the emotional wellbeing of ourselves and each other. The routine we have built and nurtured for the course of our lives has for many of us, gone. There are so many new pieces of information we may or may not need to know, so much new red tape and so many new financial and emotional hardships we just have to get on with, day by day.
It is important to just let go of it all when we can, the worries and the pains, to give mind and body a breather to get strong again, to jump the next hurdle and take on board the next grief. Sometimes you just need to let it all go and breathe.
Taking time to forget about the details and just revel in the overall-ness of the wispy forms and simple, undemanding colour: these photographs are a relief and a sanctuary, an overdue acquaintance with a quiet seascape that during this lockdown, not all can reach and many could benefit from.
In a fast moving, media drenched, pixel scrutinising world, these ghostly images are a contrary noeme to the regular photograph: an irregular mode of observation and a portrayal of an alternative consciousness by way of photographic technique.
Images are available on request as prints on a choice of papers or brushed aluminium.
